2015 is soon coming to an end, which means lots of recaps and Game of the Year discussions. Apple has jumped into the mix this year, too, by selecting the absolute best games that were released on the Mac App Store this past year. Did you favorite make the cut? See below to find out.
Mac App Store Game of the Year
Obsidian Entertainment’s recent take on the classic RPG genre, Pillars of Eternity is this year’s Mac App GOTY, and for good reason. The extensive RPG offered tons of replay value with numerous quests, engaging story, and a robust character creation system that had you choosing from 6 different races and 11 different classes. While definitely not for the casual gamer, Pillars of Eternity was the perfect game for RPG enthusiasts on the Mac looking to scratch that adventuring itch.
Mac App Store Game of the Year Runner-up
Coming in as the Mac App GOTY runner-up, Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is another very solid choice and should be on everyone’s play list, whether you’re a fan of Tolkien-inspired fantasy worlds or not. You take on the role of Talion, a ranger who has been given a sort of immortality, as you hunt down legions of orcs in search of revenge for your slain family. In particular the Nemesis System, which provides orc champions with unique traits and personalities, is a major highlight of the game that we can only hope is used as an inspiration in more games to come.

While not every game can be considered a GOTY or even a runner-up, there were still plenty of great games to grab on the Mac App Store this year. Apple was kind enough to let us know which others were worth checking out this year.
